About Sophrology Guide
Last updated
Sophrology Guide is an independent, English-language website about sophrology, the relaxation method created by the neuropsychiatrist Alfonso Caycedo in 1960.
Sophrology is widely practiced in France and Switzerland, but clear information in English is still hard to find. Much of what’s online is written by schools or practitioners promoting their own courses, or by wellness sites that repeat the same few claims. We started Sophrology Guide to offer something different: plain explanations, practical exercises and an honest account of what the evidence does and doesn’t show.
What you’ll find here
- Basics: what sophrology is, where it came from and how it compares with other practices.
- Exercises: short guided practices with clear timings, gentler options and safety notes.
- Everyday life: how people use sophrology for pregnancy and birth, exams and other big moments.
- Sessions and training: how to find a qualified sophrologist, and what it takes to become one.
- A glossary of the terms you’ll come across in sophrology.
How we work
Every article is based on published sources, which we list at the end of the page: peer-reviewed research, public health agencies and professional bodies. We never describe sophrology as a cure for anything, and we say clearly when the evidence is limited. Every exercise includes safety notes and gentler variations. You can read more in our editorial policy.
Independence
Sophrology Guide isn’t run by a sophrology school, federation or practitioner, and we don’t sell courses or sessions ourselves. To keep the site free, some pages may include affiliate links to services we think are genuinely useful for our readers, such as courses, apps, books or retreats. We may earn a commission if you buy through one of these links, at no extra cost to you. It never decides what we write. Our affiliate disclosure explains how this works.
Not medical advice
Sophrology Guide provides general information for educational purposes. It isn’t a substitute for advice from a doctor or another qualified professional. Please read our health disclaimer before trying any exercise.
